CES 2007: Skip-Away Consumer
Disc Repair System
OptoClear's Skip-Away is an upcoming
consumer oriented device that has a sole purpose of
repairing and maintaining your CDs, DVDs and games discs.
Until now, OptoClear's disc repair devices have been
primarily used by big businesses like Blockbuster video,
where disc repair is badly needed. Unfortunately these
business oriented machines run very high price tags,
so OptoClear's Skip-Away is aimed at bringing the technology
to the home user. A rep told us that the expected retail
price is $249. While that is significantly cheaper then
previous OptoClear devices, we can't imagine that there
will be a lot of consumers who will spend $249 for a
disc repair machine - of course, that doesn't include
die hard movie fans, DVD collectors, and the like. However,
we do have to hand it to OptoClear for making the Skip-Away
available in several colors - ladybug (red), canary
(yellow), pink lemonade (pink), blade (green), jet (black),
and surf (blue). Because we always like to be able to
match all of our gadgets.
