Expert: Don't Buy
PS3 Blu-ray Or Xbox 360 HD-DVD Yet

Best to sit high-definition
out?
The debate between purchasing the PS3 for its Blu-ray technology or the new Xbox 360 HD-DVD add-on drive has heated up since both have actually hit the market now.
But Dan Diotte of VenMill Industries has some depressing advice: don't buy either.
You don’t have to decide yet, he explained. History
has taught us that only one of these formats is going
to come out on top, and consumers who choose the wrong
product will lose money, time, and, of course, quality
home viewing entertainment. Wait to make this significant
purchase until after the holidays, and after one of
the two options appear to be leading the way to the
next level of home entertainment.”
His reasons are as follows:
There is no guarantee that either HD-DVD or Blu-Ray will be the clear leader a year from now. If consumers invest in one format, and it goes away, they will lose their investment and need to re-purchase a player, discs, accessories, etc.
A universal console may be developed soon after the holidays, allowing consumers to enjoy both of the new format options.
Consumers need more information to make the right decision. Many people don't know important details about both products such as: Blu-Ray discs are irreparable and HD-DVD and Blu-Ray players work with both high definition and older format DVDs.
Regardless of which player 'wins' the format war, maintenance and repair of current disc collections (DVDs, CDs, Video Games, data storage) is essential. The new discs will contain so much condensed information; they will be incredibly susceptible to dirt, scratches, and damage to the integrity of the disc.
Although I feel he's absolutely right, it's still quite a bummer nonetheless. We suspect that his advice will not be heeded and scores of people will be purchasing either the XBox 360 HD-DVD drive or a brand new PS3...call it a hunch.
