32. My concern is not listed, what do I do?
1. How often should I use my VMI Cleaner Disc?
The VMI 3500 will indicate when it is time to run a cleaning cycle for the buffing wheels. After 15 cycles the USE CLEANER DISC lights will flash indicating that after the next cycle the cleaner disc should be used. After the 16th cycle, the USE CLEANER DISC lights will flash, and the unit will sound a tone, indicating that a cleaning cycle should be run. The unit will continue to tone until a cleaning cycle has been run.

2. Why is the VMI Cleaner Disc important?
During the buffing process your wheels get dirty and stiff, which can result in damaged media and decrease pad life. The VMI Cleaner Disc cleans and softens the pads.

3. How do I clean my VMI Cleaner Disc?
Apply glass cleaner to the surface of your VMI Cleaner Disc and let it sit for one minute. Using a paper towel, wipe the buildup off the disc. Start from the center and work your way out. Make sure your VMI Cleaner Disc is dry before use. For additional information follow the directions outlined in the manual and/or DVD.

4. How many times should I clean my VMI Cleaner Disc?
You should be able to operate the VMI Cleaner Disc between 3-6 times before cleaning is necessary.

5. Can I clean a 3 inch disc?
Yes, but you must place the three inch adapter on the platter before placing the three inch disc in the unit for cleaning/repair. For additional information follow the directions outlined in the manual and/or DVD.

6. Can I run a 3 inch disc without an adapter?
No! This will damage your 3 inch disc and rubber platter.

7. Why is AC Liquid important?
AC Liquid is a unique formula developed by VenMill to accomplish a few tasks: prevent a static charge during the buffing process, increase and control the heat during the buffing process resulting in an improved repair, condition the disc restoring its optical clarity. If used properly, one bottle of AC Liquid should average approximately 750 repairs.

8. Must I use the AC Liquid on my disc?
Definitely! Besides the inferior results of the repair, the static charge produced during a repair can create unpredictable errors in the unit and may damage the unit.

9. What if I see hazing on the disc after it has been repaired?
Hazing may be caused by you buffing wheels being very dry. You will need to use more than the recommended dab of AC Liquid the first few times you use the machine to increase the moisture level in the wheels. Once this is achieved you should not see any hazing effects on your discs and you may return to the suggested application.

10. What if my disc has a greasy film after repair?
If your disc has a greasy film, it may be due to an excessive amount of chemical buildup on your buffing wheels. We recommend that you run your VMI Cleaner Disc once and then continue repairing discs without using the AC Liquid until there is no more greasy film occurring on the disc.

11. The center of my disc still has AC Liquid on it after a repair.
The buffing wheels never touch the very center of the disc. If there is AC liquid in the center it can be wiped away. To prevent this only use the AC Liquid on the recorded portion of the disc.

12.What do I do if I see faint lines on my disc after a repair?
In this case, you will need to clean your buffing wheels by using your VMI Cleaner Disc. For additional information follow the directions outlined in the manual and/or DVD.

13. How many times can I clean/repair a disc?
This is the best feature of owning a VMI 3500 Buffing Unit. You can never clean/repair a disc too many times. However you should never run a disc two times consecutively without letting the disc cool to room temperature after each repair cycle.

14. Can I clean a disc that is warped or cracked?
No! This may result in further damage to the media or your unit.

15. How long will the bottle of AC Liquid last?
If used properly, one bottle of AC liquid should last approximately 750 repairs. You can order consumables through VenMill directly at www.venmill.com, or through our current distributors located on our website under the distributors’ tab. If you have any question please call us at 866.864.0210 or email sales@venmill.com.

16. I have a buildup on my VMI Cleaner Disc.
This is normal. The cleaner disc removes dirt and debris from the wheels to keep them soft and clean. To remove the buildup from the cleaner disc spray the surface with a glass cleaner and let it sit for a minute. Then, using a paper towel, wipe the buildup off of the disc. Start from the center and work your way out. Make sure the cleaner disc is dry before using.

17. How much AC Liquid must I use?
Press firmly until the sponge flattens, then lift up completely. The bottle will release enough liquid for the disc. Using the sponge evenly spread the liquid around the disc. Follow the directions outlined in the manual and/or DVD.

18. How often should I replace my VMI Buffing Wheels?
Your buffing wheels should repair up to 2,500 discs. The unit will sound tones when they are ready to be discarded. You can order consumables through VenMill directly at www.venmill.com, or through our current distributors located on our website under the distributors’ tab. If you have any question please call us at 866.864.0210 or email sales@venmill.com.

19. Can I run my unit over 2,500 repairs?
After 2,500 repairs you will hear a continuous 15 second tone after the completion of each cleaning/repair. Continued use after reaching the 2,500 cleaning/repaired point may result in inadequate results. We recommend that you discontinue use until you have changed wheels.

20. Why are my wheels dark?
This is a symptom that you haven’t run your VMI Cleaner Disc enough. Run the VMI Cleaner Disc several times. Check the buffing wheels to see if there is an improvement. If you do not see any improvement you will need to change your wheels.

21. My unit beeps (3) times and stops almost immediately when I press the start button.
The VMI 3500 has an emergency stop feature built in that activates if the start button or open button is pressed after the cycle has begun. If the start button is held in for too long this may trigger the emergency stop feature. The start button only needs to be pressed in and released immediately. If this problem occurs, open the tray, push the tray back in and start the cycle again.

22. Where do I go to order consumables for my unit?
You can currently order consumables through VenMill directly at www.venmill.com, or through our current distributors located on our website under the distributors’ tab. If you have any question please call us at 866.864.0210 or email sales@venmill.com.

23. I’m hearing tones from my Buffing Unit.
Refer to section 4 in the manual on what the different tones indicate.

24. My unit is still sounding tones.
You need to reset the buffing wheel change counter by holding the start button as you turn the unit ON using the switch on the back panel. Hold the start switch down until unit sounds three tones. If you can’t stop the tones you may need to contact the technical support department at support@venmill.com or call at 866.864.0210.

25. What should I do if I ran the unit without a disc?
You will need to order a new rubber platter pad. Running the machine without a disc damages the rubber platter pad. Damaged rubber platters may cause media to also be damaged or warped during repair.

26. My unit repair cycle is ending early /running longer than usual?
This may be due to excessive amounts of static within the machine. (dry climates or winter) To solve this problem use an additional amount of AC Liquid when repairing your next disc. If the problem persists you may on your next couple of repairs use an additional amount of AC Liquid. Then continue as normal.

27. Is it normal that my fan doesn’t turn off/on?
The fan in your unit is controlled by a thermal switch. The switch turns on after your unit gets above about 100 degrees F. The switch stays on until the unit’s temperature drops below 68 degrees F. The fan usually does not turn on immediately; you may need to run 10-15 discs in a row before it will.

28. Why don’t I have power to my unit?
Have you installed the plastic back panel? It is gray with four thumbscrews and is packaged in a separate box for shipment. For additional help please email VenMill’s Technical Support at support@venmill.com or call at 866.864.0210.

29. My unit seems to have excessive vibration.
When installing new wheels you will have a wheel break in which causes the machine to vibrate. A wheel break in will last about 50 – 100 repairs until they are completely broken in. If vibrations still persist email VenMill's Technical Support at support@venmill.com or call at 866.864.0210.

30. How long do I need to wait before cleaning the inside of my unit?
A minimum cleaning of unit must be done when the unit sounds 10 tones. A full cleaning should be done at least at every pad change, and is recommended after periods of heavy use.

31. My Unit turns off after an hour or two of continuous use.
There is a thermal switch inside of the unit which prevents the unit from overheating and damaging itself. This switch turns power off to the entire unit. The unit will power up when the temperature drops sufficiently (10 to 15 minutes). To prevent shut down, make sure that the fan is not blocked. You may want to make sure that the back of the unit is not right against a wall. (A door kit is available for continuous use)
